Destroy Any Website multiplayer

One host picks the website. Up to five friends join the same instance, and the destruction meter is replaced by a race to a kill target.

The official description is short and specific: "Play alone, or open a room and fight up to 5 friends on the same instance." That is six players total, and everyone is inside the same rendering of the same website.

How a match is set up

  1. One player hosts. Multiplayer is started from the main screen, and the host creates the room.
  2. The host chooses the website. This matters more in multiplayer than in single player — the level is the page, so whoever picks the URL is picking the map.
  3. Friends join by link. Share the room link. Everyone joins the same instance rather than their own copy of the page.
  4. The goal changes. Instead of filling a destruction meter to 100%, the room plays to a shared kill target and the first player to reach it wins.

What is different from single player

  • The page becomes an arena. In single player nobody is competing for the same target. In multiplayer every element you are chipping away at might be finished by somebody else first.
  • Position matters more. Six people on one page means the vertical space gets crowded, which makes the jetpack and drop-down far more important than they feel solo.
  • It is shorter. A kill target ends the match on a clock. You will not be carefully clearing a page from corner to corner.

The practical limits

Three things stop multiplayer working more often than anything else:

  • Desktop only. The official system requirements are Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge on desktop with keyboard and mouse. A friend on a phone or tablet cannot join and play properly.
  • Rooms are temporary. The instance only exists while players are in it, so a room link is not something to bookmark and come back to tomorrow. Keep the tab open for the length of the match.
  • Some pages make bad maps. A page that fails to load in single player will fail for everyone. Pick something public and heavy on visible elements rather than a login screen or a paywalled article.

Choosing a good multiplayer page

Since the host picks the level, the host also picks whether the match is fun. Pages that work well are the ones with lots of separate, visible elements spread over height — a long article, a busy product listing, a wiki entry with a big infobox. Pages that work badly are short, mostly-empty pages where two people clear the whole thing in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How many players can play Destroy Any Website together?
Six in total. The official wording is that you open a room and fight up to 5 friends on the same instance.
How do you win a multiplayer match?
By reaching the room's shared kill target first. The single-player destruction meter is replaced by that race.
Can you play multiplayer on a phone?
No. Every player needs a desktop browser with a keyboard and mouse, because the game's official system requirements are desktop-only.
Can you rejoin a room later?
Rooms are live instances rather than permanent lobbies, so they do not keep running once the players leave. Set the match up when everyone is ready instead of sharing a link days in advance.
